Brighton are demanding hefty compensation for Newcastle united’s move to sign director of football Dan Ashworth, according to The Athletic.Ashworth, who resigned as Brighton director on Monday, is expected to move to Newcastle, who are currently negotiating a compensation package with the club.Ashworth is currently on gardening leave after taking over this week and Newcastle are keen to complete the deal as soon as possible.Newcastle are understood to be within striking distance of Brighton’s asking price.In addition, it is believed that Ashworth will join Newcastle next season as he needs a period of clarification.Ashworth joined Brighton in 2019 after six years as the FA’s director of development.During his time with the FA, he played a huge role in reforming the system for England.He also helped develop the FA’s “England DNA” performance programme, which is highly regarded in the industry.Ashworth was also a professional footballer, having started his career at Norwich.He went on to teach at Peterborough United, Cambridge United and West Brom.(Mr)
